SNL's Barack/MLK Sketch is Hilarious!

I just might have to start setting the DVR to record SNL; these guys are suddenly funny again! The Ray Lewis sketch was great, but I think this one was even better.

Nice job guys! Way to ring some life back to a classic show!

A Pair of Action Flicks--Parker and Hansel and Gretel--Head Up a Good Weekend at the Movies

Another weekend, another handful of movies opening up for our viewing pleasure. From what I can see the action genre will be leading the pack when the weekend's numbers come out Sunday night.

You Don't Have to be a Gamer to Enjoy Noobz

When I first read about this one I didn't think too highly of it. It just didn't seem too interesting. Who cares about a flick about competitive video gamers?

Well, after watching the trailer I have to admit that this sucker doesn't look too bad. In a nutshell it looks pretty funny. I don't really have much more to say about it than that. I have to wonder who will go see it still, but the good thing is it doesn't appear to be a real expensive flick so they will not need to do much in sales.

What in the World is Movie 43?

This is the most perplexing movie I think I have ever seen commercials for. From the brief commercials I've seen I thought it was just another one of those stupid spoof movies, but then I took a list at the actors in it and realize quickly that it is anything but.

In this flick we have Elizabeth Banks, Gerard Butler, Kieran Culkin, Hugh Jackman, Johnny Knoxville, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chloe Grace Moretz, Liev Schreiber, Seann William Scott, Tony Shalhoub, Emma Stone, Matt Walsh, Patrick Warburton, Naomi Watts, Anton Yelchin, Rocky Russo, Kristen Bell, Kate Winslet, Halle Berry…

John Dies at the End--or Does He?

It is a little unusual for a movie to give away the end of the movie in the title, but that is what appears to be the case here (or is it?). The makers of this flick are counting on people being interested in seeing how I supppose, and I can only imagine that there will be a number of  situations along the way where he should die (or looks like he is going to).

The Manti Te'o Interview on Katie Couric

This story would make for a heck of  movie if it were fake, but since it is real it is just sad. The fact that someone would feel the need to do this to another person is unbelievable and reprehensible. For it to come from a pastor's kid at that? Apparently someone didn't listen to Dad's sermons on Sunday!

The parties involved have taken there sweet time talking about this scandal since it broke, but the victim of the whole mess finally did on Katie Couric's show. You know you are curious so press play and check it out!

Broken City Leads a Good Weekend at the Movies

This is the time of year where it is not too hard to be a movie fan. There are not a ton of new movies opening like in the summer so the decision on what to see is not as hard. This weekend will be a little more challenging with some good flicks still in theaters along with the ones opening, but that's okay.

It never hurts to have too many good choices. If you want to see a new one I don't think you can go wrong, but this one would be my top choice:

"Coach"--a Great Sitcom With One Minor Flaw

Growing up this was one of my favorite show. The problem I had back then though was whenever a show changed days and time slots I usually lost track of it and stopped watching it. Heck, I was a kid--I didn't have enough of an attention span to follow anything back then!

"Mama" Might Make You Cry Out for Your--Mama

We hate to admit, but it is at moments of intense fear that we often feel the most alive. The only problem is we don't want to actually be in any danger where real harm could happen; at least not on purpose.

So Hollywood tries to take care of that for us with a steady stream of scary movies. The only problem is that it is becoming harder and harder to come up with new ideas because the same old ones just  are not cutting it anymore.

It's the been there done that problem.

There is Some Freaky S*it Out There Like the Haunting in Connecticut 2

Some of these true stories flicks kind of freak me out a bit. Making them is a brilliant move by producers. There is little that freaks people out then spooky crap that people have a reason to believe might have happened.

Or worse--still could.

Jodie Foster Looks Pretty Darn Good at the Golden Globes

The ageless Jodie Foster was awarded the Cecille B. DeMille Award during the Golden Globes and gave a speech that will go down as one of the greatest in award show history. I don't want to ruin it for you, but if you ever enjoyed one of her many movies you should watch this:

The Best Collection of Movies You Haven't Seen--AKA the Oscar Nominations

Okay, so maybe some of these are movies that you've actually seen, but for the most part we (we being the public at large) have not seen these movies. I don't know where or how the Academy comes up with these things--and not that I think they should take public opinion into mind--but we should have heard of them before the announcements (or so you would think).

Anyway...here is this year's host Seth McFarlane announcing this year's nominees:

Something that Made me Both Laugh and Cry

When I initially thought about adding this page to FatManWriting.com I planned on having it be all about movies and television. Well, so far I haven't had much time to talk much about TV so its been all about up coming movie clips.

I think what I might do is just go with whatever I find that amuses me. That way I am justified in adding this post to the site of these two dudes that are just trying to be polite/spoof all the trick shot videos that athletes have posted:

Yep--Dancing Baby Video Coming Your Way

There are some things that you just don't understand till you are faced with living with the embodiment of a particular reality. For example, back when Ally McBeal was on I don not see why the whole dancing baby thing was such a hit. The song was great and all, but I didn't get as much of a kick out of the dancing baby as most folks.

After having a couple of babies myself I get it. That's why when I see clips like this one of a cute little kiddo taking the stage at Dad's show I am compelled to post it.

If Darth Vader Had Said "I'll Be Back!"...

The Governator has made some great movies during his career. The Terminator will always be a cinematic gold as will Twins, Commando, Conan, the Running Man, Predator--the list could go on and on.

But what if he was in some other classic movies? What if he was the voice of Darth Vader instead of James Earl Jones?

Many thanks to the folks at Cosby Sweaters for posting this nugget!

The Rock is Not a Snitch--But He Smells What You're Cooking!

Can you smeeeellll what the Rock is cooking?!?! I ask you--is there a more electric personality in professional wrestling, acting, or anything else?

The Rock (he will always be The Rock to me) has managed to take his WWE fame and translate it into a pretty good career in the movies. They haven't all been good (Doom; yes I am referencing Doom here), but like his wrestling matches they are all pretty entertaining:

Iron Man 3 is Going to Rock!

Whenever you have one sequel to a hit movie you take the chance that the audience is going to tire of you a little. Whenever you go for another you really are putting your money on the line since it is hard to take the same character and have him/her succeed in three movies. If you actually go for a fourth then you must have the stars of the show under contract or something (since a third sequel is often just a regurgitation of the other two).

Films have to be willing to test the limits when they go for a third installment. Of course it helps if you are talking about a superhero with a legendary following from decades of awesome comics!

Zero Dark Thirty Puts the Hurt On Haunted House and Gangster Squad

Is it really any surprise that "Zero Dark Thirty", the movie that is based on the hunt and eventual death of Osama Bin Laden, did really well in its first weekend in national release? There may be a lot of dissidents in the U.S., but for the most part we are a bunch of terrorist hating, eye for an eye, good ole fashioned retribution seeking ole' boys, right?

Okay, we may think about revenge and all, but we don't necessarily seek it all the time. That's what makes it so nice when the government does it for us!

The film made $24 million over the weekend easily beating "Haunted House," what looks to be one of the better spoof movies, and third place "Gangster Squad" that came in with $16.7 million.

Quirkiest Darn Movie I Ever Thought I'd Want to See

I'm not into the whole zombie thing, but this movie looks like one I could get into.

It's a simple boy meets girl, boy and girl fall in love kind of story. The only problem is that boy happens to be  dead and a zombie.

Baytown Outlaws--Nothing But Babes, Bullets, and Bad Guys (lots of bad guys)

This looks like one of those movies that folks will either love or hate.

Eva Longoria stars as Celeste. Billy Bob Thornton is her ex-husband. Billy Bob tries to kill her but fails. He does take her godson though. She hires three dudes (redneck as redneck can be) to go get him.

Will Tom Cruise Ever Be Blasted Into Oblivion?

I'm sure there are many people that would like for that to happen. If you get wrapped up into all the gossip stuff--I can see that. Me? I'm not into that mess, but my wife is and she keeps those magazines on the kitchen island that happens to be near the bathroom...

Anyway...He may act like a freak in his real life, but I still dig the movies that the man formerly known as "Maverick" makes. I haven't seen Jack Reacher yet, but I've heard good things. I absolutely loved the last Mission Impossible movie too.

Tarzan Returns--Overseas at Least

This is one of the greatest stories in literature; I can remember watching the old black and white movies growing up and thinking they were some of the coolest shows made. One of the great things about classics like this is that they can be retold time and time again and still be fantastic (as long as the director doesn't take too many liberties with it...)

In this one Tarzan and Jane are going to be facing off with an army of bad guys sent by Greystoke Energies. If the rest of the movie is anything like the clip it appears to be pretty good:

Government Sees No Need to Build Death Star (Darn)

Can you just imagine what it would be like to have the awesome, destructive power of the Death Star at your control? Talk about intoxicating; to be able to turn another planet into ruble just because you can....

Well, there are some folks that thought it would be a good idea for the government to have one so they started a petition online to request the government do just that. Sure enough, there were way more than the 25,000 signatures that the government requires for a response. So the government did!

And the answer is no.

In spite of the obvious job benefits (on one hand there will probably not be a single American unemployed, but then again whoever would have been in charge of it probably would have outsourced most of the labor to Mexico anyway...) it was simply deemed a project that was doomed from the start (so why start?).

Sly Wants to Give You a Bullet to the Head

If I was a former action star and I got a wild hair up  behind to do some more action flicks even though I had become much, much older--a little too old to really be logically looked upon as an action guy--and someone was willing to pay me for it.

I'd do it.

Sawyer is a Dance Coach?

For years I watched the show Lost  much like many of you out there. One of my favorite characters throughout the show was Sawyer--the bad guy trying to turn good while still being bad. He was handsome. He was a rogue. He was slick; good with the ladies--or at least Kate. He was the kind of guy you don't mind being minus the whole illegal activity stuff.

Pacific Rim Sounds Like it Should be a Godzilla Movie (but With Giant Robots)

If this movie was being made back in 1980 I would say it would have to be made as part of the Godzilla series of monster flicks. You know what I'm talking about--dudes in costumes acting out fight sequences over Popsicle stick cities and villages in an attempt to make them look like giants.

Luckily we live in the 21st century where film makers are able to create some awesome gigantic monsters that can engage in even bigger fight sequences with whomever is foolish enough to stand against them.

Like in this flick, Pacific Rim, set to come out pretty soon (July; so I guess it is not too soon). Based off the description alone it sounds like one I'd skip if it were not for the killer graphics and fight scenes this sucker looks like it is going to have.

The old grizzled war veteran being teamed with the young rookie pilot is a little cliche, but lets be honest here. If you are watching this one it is not for the plot, story line, or character development.

You want to see giant robots fight giant sea monsters. Oh yeah, baby!

Jason Statham is Robin Hood--I Mean Parker

Back in the day action movies had pretty basic, generic plots. You had bad guys doing bad things, good guy(s) getting angry, revenge/retribution sought, and a whole lot of fighting along the way. The stories were rarely ever fleshed out without the help of an extensive music montage, but that didn't matter--all we wanted were the fights anyway.

Nowadays folks like to see a little bit more in their action flicks. Often times its pyrotechnics and expensive special effects, but sometimes they actually give the film a bit of a story line and plot with actual characters!

From what I can tell Parker gives us a pretty good story to go with all the *** kicking. Jason Statham, the action man of the decade, is Parker--a top of the line thief that gets betrayed and left for dead.

You see, he has principles unlike most crooks. He never steals from the poor and he does not hurt innocent people (hence the Robin Hood reference). Some bad guy, right?

Once he recovers he heads down to Palm Beach to exact revenge on his treacherousness crew. Yeah, I know it sounds just as simple as anything that Steven Seagal ever made. However, the promo looks like there is substance to it.

It doesn't hurt that it is one of many in a long line of books written by Donald Westlake under the pen name Richard Starks. One of his other books was made into the '99 movie Payback starring Mel Gibson. So if this one is similar in any way to that one we are going to have a heck of a movie on our hands.

Can anyone say franchise for Jason Statham?

Zero Dark Thirty Looks Awesome!

There are certain things that just make great movies. Heart breaking sports stories certainly do. True crime movies typically work (although I thought Donnie Brasco was a little slow at times). One of my personal favorites--cartoons.

If I was forced to choose I would say that my favorite kind of movies are the ones that make me proud to be an American (next to cartoons); something where the soldiers and/or other members of the Armed Forces (or spy community) kick some serious bad guy behind in order to protect democracy for all (love me some Chuck Norris; Uncommon Valor was incredible).

Zero Dark Thirty is one of those movies.

It is based on the hunt for and the eventual raid that killed Osama Bin Laden. What American can't be proud of that, right?

In the days leading up to its release I've seen a lot of articles where the intelligence community is upset with the liberties that the studio took with the film. They have a problem with the depiction of a small group of people being the force behind the hunt and raid when it was the culmination of many, many people working long and hard.

I understand their issue and I appreciate that they want this opportunity for those people that would otherwise never get a lick of credit for the work they do to make our country safe. However, they have to remember that this is Hollywood still. The small group makes me sense in order to drive the movie forward and give viewers a chance to really identify with the players involved.

Don't worry intelligence guys. We may not know who you are (and I imagine since you have work to do that is a good thing), but the appreciation we have for you is never ending. Please keep doing what you do.

And thanks. Thanks a lot.

Arnold is Back for the Last Stand!

Arnold has his many faults as a man. The media has made sure we found all about that (sorry Maria; if you're not busy I have a friend you would love...). His time as governor was rather interesting. Having not lived in California I can't say if he did anything worthwhile or not.

I saw his announcement on Leno (I think?) when he said he was going to run; I appreciate that he was willing to put his money where his mouth is and run rather than be one of the many that complain but do nothing to try and fix the system. Anyway...

In spite of his faults as a person and politician I am glad that the man is returning to his roots as an action movie star.

Now I know that most folks are probably going to say that he is way too old, what in the world is he doing, can't the studios get somewhere more realistic to be an action here?

Well, in some respects you folks would be right. A dude of Arnie's age should not be doing action movies anymore. Then again, as good as studios have gotten when it comes to working with these older guys. With the right scripts, some really good special effects, and a solid supporting cast it can work.

Just look at Bruce Willis who can't stop making awesome movies every time he decided to die hard. Now this supposed boxing movie starring Sly and Al Pacino? I don't know about that one...

Brad Pitt Goes From Hitchhiking Cowboy to Zombies!

Brad Pitt is one of those guys that has done a whole plethora of roles (I learned that word watching The Three Amigos). He's been a hitchhiking cowboy, crazy dude, baseball exec, handsome con man, Nazi killer in WWII, my all-time favorite--tragic son/brother and whiskey runner in the best movie ever (Legends of the Fall), and so much more.

In his advancing years (yes, ladies even Brad Pitt is getting older) he seems to be trying to find different roles to sink his teeth into; stuff he hasn't done yet. Like try to save the world from a zombie apocalypse.

This appears to be more than just another zombie/shoot 'em up kind of movie. As it turns out it is based off a book by Max Brooks, World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War. Just from what I can get online the book appears to be pretty good.

It is written as an oral account from ten different people that lived through the Zombie War. Pitt is to play the part of the UN guy that is compiling their stories into a report.

I want to read the book, but I'm always afraid of ruining the movie by doing so. Then again, with the kids chances are by time I do see the movie it will be out on TBS, USA, or SyFy and I'll have forgotten all about the book....

Funniest Da*n Video I've Watched on YouTube

When I first planned on doing an entertainment page I thought I would cover anything that falls under the entertainment umbrella -movies, tv, music, and anything else that folks might get a kick out of seeing. After seeing how well my TV post did last night and today I might stick to movies for awhile, but I recently came across this video and I could not stop laughing.

Maybe it's just because I'm a dad myself that I enjoyed it so much. I'm sure moms will get a kick out of it too. Single and/or child-less folks--you'll like it too just not as much probably.

Will Smith's "After Earth" Could be Huge Hit--or Huge Miss

Typically when I think about a Will Smith movie I'm all for seeing it. I still dig the man as a rapper (yes, I get jiggy with it when its in the summertime as I pump the brakes in Miami listening to "Nightmare on My Street"; because, you know--I can beat Mike Tyson and parents just don't understand). When I see his name in the credits I can trust that the movie will be a good one.

While I am interested in seeing his latest flick--After Earth--that he made with his son Jaden, I will be a little apprehensive about it (and go see something else if there is something I want to see at the theater. Why?

Because of the director--M. Night Shyamalan.

The man is brilliant. He is capable of great things and has made some great movies. He has also made some good ones and some that were absolute stinkers. He's had great cast to work with in the past and done well; he's also stunk with top actors.

Part of me thinks that maybe he is too smart for his own good and over-thinks everything. Do that (over think) and most of us end up changing things that don't need to be changed.

Will Smith gives me hope though. I don't see him getting involved in something that sucks. I might wait to hear what others think before seeing it it though.

No Underwear for Superman?

I am not a big fan of messing with the classics and changing them up. I don't see a need or purpose for taking something this is time-honored and iconic, and altering it so that it appears 'different' or worse 'updated.'

However, I am also not a psychotic fan that is going to flip out because the studio is messing with one of my favorite characters from when I was a wee small lad.

I'm talking about the new Superman that is set to come out this summer (I think). Now I'm not too concerned that they picked an Australian (I could care less if Superman had any kind of accent). What did get me to balk at first was when I found out they messed with the man's outfit.

No they didn't go crazy and ditch the cape or change the colors to mauve or lime green or anything.

They took the man's underwear.

I am a traditionalist when it comes to my superheros so I was not crazy about the move, but in the end--whatever. They could have done a lot worse I suppose.

Brad Pitt to Play Pontius Pilate?

It seems that once pretty boy actors get a little older they quit taking a lot of the mainstream roles that we grew to love them in, but instead take artsy, independent, or just flat out different/out there kinds of things. In a way I can see why. Now that they are financially secure (assuming they are not stupid with their money) they can afford to take some roles that allow them the chance to exercise their acting chops even though the role or the movie may not be popular.

George Clooney has made a habit of this of late. I can't remember the last time I actually like a movie he was in (that Michael Clayton flick was awful as was The Americans). His Ocean's 11 buddy, Brad Pitt has been getting a little more adventourous with his roles (see Inglourious Basterds) while still doing some popular stuff (Moneyball).

It looks like there is a solid chance that Mr. Pitt could be taking on his first truly villainous role; someone that most folks will have a hard time liking:

Pontius Pilate; you know, the guy that convicted Jesus to death and had him crucified.

It's not a done deal yet, but the rumor mill says it is looking good. The studio (Warner Bros) isn't confirming anything (but they did not deny it either).

Here's a clip of Pitt from Inglourious Basterds (NSFW):

Classic Fables Jack and the Beanstalk and Hansel and Gretel--with a Twist

With the speed that movies have been out with in recent summers it stands to reason that the studios might be hard up for some new material. That's why we have a ton of remakes and sequels to movies that came out a decade or two ago; sometimes they hit, sometimes they don't.

Seeing these two classic fables that Mom and Dad used to read to us as kids being remade into the action picked, dark stories that we see in the following two promos should not be a surprise. Last summer (I think?) Snow White and the Huntsmen hit theaters; didn't get to see it, but it looked bad*ss and I was told it did not disappoint.

The idea here is pretty smart. Take some stories that everyone is familiar with and put a twist on them that does not go completely away from the well-known story, but allows the studio to create something that folks have not seen before.

I can only imagine what they are going to do to Humpty Dumpty or the Three Little Pigs! Or the Boy Who Cried Wolf!

"Do No Harm" Might Do Lots of Harm

This one is interesting. It looks like a Jekly and Hyde sort of thing--good doctor by day, maniacal ego-maniac at night. That kind of stuff interests me; it looks to have the makings of a decent suspense thriller.

The only problem is I can't see much of a plot or direction for the show in the promos. The doc tells us about his problem--okay. Then we see--well, why don't you watch it first:

They are going to need to establish a story line here pretty quick otherwise folks are going to tune out pretty quick. Right now I have no idea where they are going with this, but my id digs this potentially evil looking stuff (it better not turn into a Ghost Whisperer; they often had evil looking plots, but always had the softest climaxes).

There are a lot of good shows out there these days some that are getting kicked to the curb for not developing fast enough to attract a good sized audience (I'm talking to you Last Resort). Time will tell...

The Lone Ranger Rides Again!

This is another one of those flicks that if they stray too far from the original folks will be a little upset. You are not talking about just any ole character here. You are talking about a Old West crime fighter--the closest thing to a superhero that the Old West could have--that has been around in some way, shape, or form since 1933!

Suffice it to say, there are a few generations of fans out there!

I just watched "John Carter" so I am fully aware how bad Disney can screw up an action flick, but I feel safe with this one since it has Jerry Bruckenheimer attached as the director. The man does know how to make a good action movie so as long as the plot is decent this one should not disappoint!

Get Your Serial Killer Fix on with Ripper Street

I never imagined I would watch anything on the BBC but some rugby matches, but after watching this promo for "Ripper Street" I think I might give this one a try.

It's the classic tail of Jack the Ripper, one of the most infamous serial killers in history to never get caught. The man was one messed up dude, and somehow managed to pull off some brutal crimes. if you dig Criminal Minds I think you might dig this show (at least that's the logic I'm taking into it!).

Here's the promo:

You Would Not be Justified in not Watching "Justified"

I'll work on the cheesy *** puns in the titles, but I think you guys get the point. The FX show Justified started its new season Tuesday night (at 10 PM ET). I haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but it is high on my list of shows to watch (love the DVR).

The show is awesome. Raylan Givens is a no nonsense U.S. Marshal in backwoods Kentucky with all the drama that a VH1 reality show and a remake of "Deliverance" wrapped up with--oh, pick a cop show (NSFW).

He's a lot like Tommy Lee Jones's U.S. Marshall character in "The Fugitive", but cooler. Just watch this clip and tell me you don't agree (NSFW):

Zorro Being Reborn---in "Zorro Reborn"

Some tales somehow manage to stand the test of time. Most of your classic superheroes are proof positive of that. So is the tale about a swashbuckling swordsman that rights the wrongs done by the evil elite so that the poor do not have to suffer.

I'm talking about Zorro or course. Most folks know of it from the Antonio Banderas/ Anthony Hopkins/ Catherine Zeta-Jones flicks from 1998 and '05, but it actually began as part of a weekly serial called "The Curse of Capistrano" in 1919.

I first saw Zorro in the 80's(see the trailer above) when I was visiting my grandparents in Connecticut in this movie version of the classic character played by George Hamilton; great action, awesome story, funny as heck--I was hooked.

This version is going to be a more futuristic sort of story. Gone will be the Mexico or California back drop; in will be some future, post-apocalyptic world.

Since I'm a fan of the tale I'll probably try to see it. It does sound promising, but it will be interesting to see if it ends up being based on the original story or just inspired. Given that the story has been retold in some way, shape or form in countless movies adaptations, television shows, comics, and other published material from around the world I give these guys credit for breaking away from the norm.

Just don't mess it up.

John McClain and Jack Bauer Need to Meet

There are some guys that are absolute bad*sses. John McClain is one of them. Bruce Willis got the character going years ago (so long ago I can't remember when...), and somehow he has managed to keep him going strong without making him look ridiculous (please do not get 'inspired' and try to bring Rocky or Rambo back Sly!).

As luck would have it the baddest cop on earth is back. He and his son will be looking to not die hard, harder or at all in "A Good Day to Die Hard" when it hits theaters next month (February 14; Valentines Day...ahhh...)

This one is going to be awesome. I don't know how Bruce Willis handles the stunts that he does in this movie. I wish I could move that good now and I'm a lot younger than him! Yes, I know CGI can do wonders as can a good double, but let me live my fantasy, okay??

Sorry to mislead with the title a little there, but y'all have to admit. It would be one impressive meeting of awesomeness if John McClain and Jack Bauer were ever to get together and fight bad guys, right?

Mortal Kombat Coming Back!

Funny thing about the internet; turns out people like to post a lot of fake crap on it in a ridiculous effort to fool folks into thinking something is real when it really isn't.

Shocker, right?

I thought I was watching a clip of the next Mortal Kombat movie, but discovered that it was actually just a really creative project from an enterprising fan. However,  after a little research I found out that there actually is supposed to be a new movie in the works. This clip had something to do with bringing it about:

If I can believe what I read this short was made by Kevin Tancharoen who has been signed on by New Line Cinema and Warner Bros to direct a new Mortal Kombat movie. This was back in September 2011 so either the project fell apart or it is taking a really long time to put together.

Who knows...?

Robocop Ready to Clean Up the Streets in February 2014!

Purist might not dig all our favorite movies from the 80's being redone, but for the most part I'm okay with it. As long as they have some kind of plot...

Who am I kidding? Special effects are so incredible now how can I not want my favorite action flicks remade? Like Robocop, set to start protecting the streets of Detroit once again a little over a year from now (assuming production stays on track):

This is one that has had rumors surrounding it for years. A remake was in the works in '05, but stopped a year later. Then one was scheduled to be released in '10. It got a new director in '11, was cast in March 2012 and originally thought to be ready for 2013.

It has since been pushed to '14 and that's okay. Pics from the set look bad *ss so this is one that we will not be sorry we had to wait for. With the cast attached to it the darn thing has to be good!

I don't know if I'll be able to swing this one for Valentines Day in '14, but I might have to try.

Arnold Says "I'll Be Back"--and Will Be in Terminator 5

This is too cool and apparently been a longtime coming, but the next installment of the Terminator series is finally on track to happen. For lovers of the franchise this is good news, but for those that appreciate its origins the best piece is who is going to be involved in the flick.

Arnold. Yes, fans, the original Terminator will be back!

I was going to post this totally awesome clip here that a fan made; a preview for the future T5 flick. I have to say that this sucker is awesome; it totally had me fooled at first. I thought it was legit. However, the embedding was disabled (so here is the YouTube link).

Apparently this one has been in the works for a longtime, but as of last December it is finally ready to go. Rather than try to tell you the skinny on what happened here is a news clip that does the job pretty good:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Going Gangnam Style--and Coming Out With a New Movie

This entertainment page is going to be a lot of fun to do. When I was looking for a clip of the G.I. Joe: Retaliation preview I came across a ton of other clips for new and soon to be released movies. So folks rest assured that I will be doing my best to bring them to you in the days and weeks to come!

Anyway...remakes and superheroes seem to be what is in store for us at the theaters in the months to come. One of the many that fans will be looking forward to is the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles flick:

It doesn't look like they are going to be trying to appeal to kids like the original movies did. More like they trying to do serious, action-packed reboots for the same fans that loved the first ones, but are now adults.

And I'm okay with that. Now if someone tries to take the Care Bears and make that into a serious thriller or something...that I'll have a problem with (not that I was into Care Bears as a kid or nothing...)

These guys (whoever it is that is in charge) are pretty smart about their publicity, and recently latched onto the latest parody craze to create a video they hoped would go viral--and it should. This is easily my favorite of the many Gangnam Style videos that I've seen.

Could you imagine these guys trying to do "Call Me Maybe?"

Anyway...here's the clip:

I Can't Wait for G.I. Joe Retaliation!

Got to go see a movie this past weekend, and since we hardly go anymore (thanks kids) it was tough choosing what to see (it was my Birthday so I got to pick). Had my birthday fallen a few months later--say after or on March 29--the choice would have been a no-brainer. It would have been G.I. Joe Retaliation all the way!

I don't even need to see the preview to say that. Back in the day I was a huge G.I. Joe fan. I collected the comics from issue #1 up until they started to get too much like the X-Men with all the sci-fi crap (if I wanted X-Men I would have read X-Men).

As a kid I can remember when the cartoon was bumped up a half hour. That meant that right when we got off the bus we could make it inside in time to see the "knowing is half the battle" part. I was very upset.

Anyway...the first one rocked so I am sure this one will as well. The only thing I hope this one does not do that the other did is all the flashbacks; kinda took away from the story for me (they were too long; shorter would have been okay).

Maybe I can talk my wife into this one for Easter or an early Father's Day present...

Will the Great Gatsby be--Great?

I had a hard time trying to figure out what my first post on the entertainment section was going to be. There is just too much to talk about in the world of entertainment--all the new shows starting up, last night's Biggest Loser with Jillian back, I actually saw a movie in a theater (that's big news for us; those of you with kids will get it), and so much more.

In the midst of my puzzling I stumbled across this clip for a movie set to come out in May. Part of me is excited at the prospect of seeing it, but another part will not mind if I have to wait till it comes on TBS.

The Great Gatsby was the only book in high school English that I read from cover to cover while actually keeping up with the assignments (I was still an excellent student). The book was great! Here you had this man of the world that was charming as hell, all the ladies loved him, all the guys wanted to be him (or hurt him--the world was his yet he was still tragically in love with a girl he couldn't have.

Awesome book! In class we got to watch the Robert Redford version of the movie; again--awesome!

So while the story is one that I remember fondly (so in that respect I can't wait to see the movie) I am not sure that Leo was the right man for the part. Leo is a great actor and from what I hear the chicks dig him so he has some of the qualities that Gatsby possessed, but I just don't buy him in the role.

He is great at delving into roles and becoming the person that his character is, so the movie will probably still be great, but they could have done better. In all honesty I think Matt Bomer would have been better for the role. Maybe its just the character that he plays in the USA Network series White Collar, but I see him bringing a similar persona to the role as Redford did back in the day.

FatManWriting is Expanding!!!

Yes, folks, that is right. FatManWriting is expanding (a FatMan expanding; novel concept...)!

There have been many times that I have been tempted to add in posts on some of the latest movies (on the rare occasion I see one), movie trailers, and television shows--especially reality television and new shows.

My purpose here at FatManWriting is to make money. I've never been one to do something I hate or can't stand so I figured it was time to expand my writing into something else I dig and that guys and gals everywhere also dig--entertainment.

Here I'll be talking about reality shows, new shows that I watch, and movies that I happen to see and trailers. For the most part it will be my thoughts on something, biased and non-biased, as well as clips of upcoming shows and movies that look cool.

To get started I will need some help. I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out what to call this section. For now I've labelled it 'ENTERTAINMENT' in order to make sure y'all know what kind of material will be posted here.

I need a name; something catchy; hopefully a little witty, funny of course, but also gives folks an idea what the page is about.

So please, please, please throw out any and all suggestions in the comment section. When I see one I dig or that a lot of other people seem to dig then I'll rename the page.
